Based in USA and Japan, Miyuki Sohara was a TV announcer and a radio DJ in Japan and USA for 13 years. She ha also produced numerous live performances and film projects. In preparation for shooting Hannari-Geisha Modern, Miyuki trained alongside the geisha in Kyoto for several years.

" Hannari-Geisha Modern "

Many of the popular films and stories about the Geisha seem to perpetuate the unwelcome notion that those who become geisha and victims of circumstances. Hannari-Geisha Modern fcusses on the Geisha of Kyoto, truly dedicated artists and proud purveyors of Japanese tradition. Their graceful dances, the sounds of their instruments and their soft, melodic dialect can only be summed up with an adjective heard only in Kyoto: Hannari.
